Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated at the House of Representatives Budget Committee on the 7th regarding issues surrounding Taiwan, “Our traditional position is to expect a peaceful resolution.” She added, “What constitutes a ‘crisis of national survival’ (enabling the exercise of collective self-defense) must be comprehensively judged based on each specific situation.”
She further pointed out, “It is conceivable that China could impose a naval blockade using warships, and that the U.S. military might come to the aid of Taiwan to lift such a blockade, leading to the use of force to prevent that.” She stated, “It is extremely important to anticipate every possible worst-case scenario. If it involves the use of force by warships, I believe it could undoubtedly constitute a situation threatening Japan's survival.”
“To avoid national annihilation”
On the 9th, Xue Jian updated his X account, posting: “‘Taiwan emergency is Japan's emergency’ is a path to death chosen by some foolish Japanese politicians.” He argued, “It is an excessively reckless attempt that disregards the obligations of a defeated nation and completely forgets the former enemy state provisions of the UN Charter.”
He further stated, “I earnestly hope they regain at least a minimum of rationality and respect for the law, so that they never again suffer a national catastrophe like defeat.”
